The City of Duncanville received its designation as a Texas Certified Retirement Community by the Texas Department of Agriculture on March 15, 2007.
D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center
D.L. Hopkins, Jr. Senior Center was built in 1985 and renovated, upgraded, and expanded in 2003. The Senior Center is a partnership of the City of Duncanville and the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, and provides local seniors a multitude of recreational opportunities. Open Monday through Friday, the center allows senior citizens to be actively involved in the community and participate in numerous educational, entertainment, and volunteer opportunities.
The center offers a variety of activities for the senior citizens in the community, and classes are offered throughout the year. Popular classes such as computers, exercise, and Spanish are scheduled on a year-round basis, while other topics may be offered seasonally or scheduled when there is high demand. Volunteers donate much time to providing additionally activities for the seniors, such as musical and dramatic performances, and other instructional events. The center also provides transportation to various events in the surrounding area.
